An old-fashioned oven-baked BBQ burger recipe with oats and onions, perfect for an easy family dinner. This casserole-style bake is freezer-friendly.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, rolled oats, chopped onion, 1/4 cup BBQ sauce, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Spread the remaining 1/4 cup of BBQ sauce over the top of the burger mixture.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the burgers are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.
  6. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • This dish can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking. Add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
  • Leftovers can be cooled, covered, and frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat in the oven or microwave.
  • Serve with your favorite burger toppings like cheese, lettuce, and tomato.
