Ingredients
Scale
6 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish or a 9-inch pie plate.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
For a richer flavor, you can add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble topping.
If you don’t have brown sugar, you can substitute granulated sugar, but the crisp will be less moist.
