A simple and comforting fall dessert featuring tender cinnamon apples topped with a buttery oat crumble. Perfect for a cozy evening.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (like Honeycrisp or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish or a 9-inch pie plate.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  7. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble topping.
  • If you don’t have brown sugar, you can substitute granulated sugar, but the crisp will be less moist.
