You can make this incredibly simple Caramel Apple Dump Cake with just five ingredients. This recipe requires no mixing; you just layer the components and bake for a warm, gooey fall dessert that is perfect for potlucks or weeknight comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup caramel bits or chips
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of apple pie filling into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread it into an even layer.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple layer. Do not stir or mix the layers.
  4. Scatter the caramel bits evenly over the top of the dry cake mix.
  5. Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the entire surface, aiming to cover the cake mix as much as possible.
  6. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly around the edges.
  7. Let the dump cake cool slightly before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a slow cooker version, grease a 6-quart slow cooker insert. Layer the ingredients as directed above. Cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or on high for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • If you cannot find caramel bits, you can substitute with 1/2 cup of caramel sauce drizzled over the cake mix layer instead of the bits.
  • This recipe is an excellent example of low effort baking that yields satisfying results.
