Make this irresistible, gooey cheese bread loaf that pulls apart easily. It combines buttery garlic flavor with melted cheese, making it the perfect party appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf crusty bread (sourdough or French works well)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese blend (Mozzarella and Cheddar recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper until fully combined. This is your garlic butter spread.
  3. Take the loaf of bread and cut deep, even slices across the loaf, stopping just before cutting all the way through the bottom crust. Cut perpendicular slices to create a crosshatch pattern.
  4. Gently open the cuts in the bread. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously into the crevices of the bread.
  5. Stuff the shredded cheese blend deep into the cuts, ensuring even distribution throughout the loaf.
  6. Wrap the entire loaf tightly in aluminum foil.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes while wrapped.
  8. Carefully unwrap the loaf and return it to the oven for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  9. Let the bread cool for 5 minutes before serving warm as a pull-apart appetizer.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, use sharp cheddar cheese in your blend.
  • You can substitute fresh herbs like parsley or chives for dried Italian herbs.
  • If you want a crispier top crust, place the unwrapped loaf under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
