A classic, easy peach cobbler recipe with a golden topping, perfect for serving warm with vanilla ice cream. This southern cobbler is a delightful summer dessert or a comforting family dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups fresh peaches, sliced (about 68 medium peaches)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, gently toss the sliced peaches with 1/2 cup sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Pour the peach mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish or a cast iron skillet.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Pour the batter evenly over the peaches.
  7. Sprinkle a little extra granulated sugar over the top of the batter.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of cardamom to the peach mixture.
  • If you don’t have fresh peaches, you can use frozen or canned peaches (drained). Adjust sugar if using canned peaches as they may already be sweetened.
  • This cobbler is best served warm, but leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
