Make this easy vodka cocktail that perfectly balances sweet and tart flavors. This recipe delivers a refreshing, elegant drink ready in just five minutes, complete with the signature sugar rim.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz Vodka (use your best vodka for martinis)
  • 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 0.75 oz Simple Syrup (homemade simple syrup for cocktails recommended)
  • Granulated Sugar (for rim)
  • Lemon Wedge (for rim and garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the martini glass: Run a lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe or martini glass. Dip the moistened rim into a shallow plate of granulated sugar to create the sugar rim. Set the glass aside.
  2. Combine ingredients: Add the vodka, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake well: Close the shaker and shake hard until the outside of the shaker is very cold, about 15 to 20 seconds.
  4. Strain and serve: Double strain the mixture into your prepared, sugar-rimmed glass.
  5. Garnish: Garnish with a thin lemon twist. Serve this sweet and tart martini immediately.

Notes

  • For the best flavor balance, make your own simple syrup using equal parts water and sugar heated until dissolved, then cooled.
  • If you prefer a slightly different flavor, you can substitute some of the vodka with Limoncello for a homemade limoncello martini variation.
  • To make a non alcoholic lemon drop mocktail, substitute the vodka with sparkling water or non-alcoholic spirit alternative.
