A glossy, spreadable, and rich chocolate fudge frosting made on the stovetop. Perfect for cakes and brownies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, butter, cocoa powder, evaporated milk, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a rolling boil.
  3. Boil for exactly 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Let the frosting cool for about 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired spreadable consistency.
  6. Pour or spread over your cake or brownies.

Notes

  • For a glossier finish, stir the frosting vigorously after removing it from the heat.
  • If the frosting becomes too thick, you can stir in a teaspoon of milk or cream at a time until it reaches the desired consistency.
  • This frosting sets up quickly, so have your baked goods ready.
